A Prayer for Broken Love

Say a prayer for loves
Broken by life
The ones that just faded
Or were murdered by strife
Or the ones that never
Should have been at all
Say a prayer for the lovers
That loved through it all
And for loves that stepped up
To answer the call
And the ones that laid down
After too many nights crying
The fighting, the drinking,
The hurting, the lying,
The promises broken
The vows they were trying
To keep just to look good
And keep up the appearance
While who they were faded
That sad disappearance
The invisible victim of love
That was gone
When they stayed
And they stayed
And they should have
Moved on
To a life that was richer
And full of beauty
But they stayed for a relationship
Shrouded in duty
Like love is a chore
That they have to do
Instead of holy
And cherished
And strong, even true
Say a prayer for the people
Who’ve fallen on swords
When they had lives they were missing
Tied up in the cords
Of lovers that wanted
Something real, something other
Loves that have died
And some that were smothered
Say a prayer for the love
That isn’t love at all
It’s just a trip that you went on
When you wanted to fall
But staying in resignation
Isn’t loving at all.
