Making Good Time

I made time for an education
And made time for that guy
I took the job that I could get
I didn’t make time to ask why
I made time for my reading
And for the occasional night of fun
But time for reflection was limited
When all of that was done
And so my time trickled away
Like the sands of time will do
I kept so little for myself
And gave so much of it to you
Until I woke up gasping for air
As if it was as fleeting as the day
I could not live another moment
Giving all my time away
I made time for my children
Without forgetting myself, too
I made time for my passions
Because we become what it is we do
I made time for the ones I love
Who have buoyed me through the years
I made time for adventures
But I stopped making time for fears
Time will flow away from me
I’m not trying to hold on
But I will enjoy the moments given
Before they are all gone.
