Maybe Not-Drowning Isn’t Enough

Until this week, I have never taken a formal swimming lesson. I come from the kind of family who would just throw you in the deep end of the pool and let you figure it out. That is to say, I’m self-taught. I’m really good at not drowning. I can tread water, doggie paddle, and float like a champ. I can even do this sort of swimming that looks like what I think trained swimmers do.
