Not approaching someone you’re interested in is not the same thing as respecting someone’s space and autonomy. It makes a good excuse for not connecting with others, but there’s a big difference between someone introducing themselves, asking us out, or generally trying to make a connection and someone being inappropriate. Honestly, it’s a skill set, but learning to recognize body language and read the room can help identify when someone is interested and when they would rather be left alone.
