The Search for the Divine

I find you in the quiet spaces
Surrounded by the trees
Water lapping at the shore
In the buzzing of the bees
Idyllic surroundings
And peace inside my mind
I don’t search in temples
Because I know what I would find
Ritual and flourish
A balm for souls, I know
But when I want to meet you
I know just where to go
I can climb a mountain
Or follow the nearest trail
I can sit inside a garden
Or a lake would do as well
But when the weather’s raging
And keeps me from that space
I can reach inside me
And meet you in that place
In the quiet and the stillness
With a love so strong
No, I don’t need a steeple
When you’ve been in me all along.
