This is What Self-Love Looks Like

This love poem is for me
I wrote it for myself
I bought myself some flowers
I sat them on the shelf
I made myself a cake
And ate the biggest slice
I even bought this one balloon
Because I’ve been so very nice
I ate my breakfast in my bed
In pajamas oh-so-pretty
I drove myself to a fancy dinner
And listened to music in the city
I held my hand through the movies
I had a picnic in the grass
They say that love must always end
But my love for me will last
I wake to the face I know best
And close my eyes in peace she’s there
It’s not that I’m immune to love
But I’ve got more love to spare
And what I have should fill me up
And not simply drain me dry
So if you ask why I bought flowers
This is the reason why
And I think we all deserve a treat
At least, I’m sure I do
I’m not waiting for love to arrive
Because I love me, too.
